What People are Saying about the Zenagos Experts

Why We Started Zenagos

We created Zenagos because small businesses deserve to have access to high quality strategic consulting at an affordable price. We have spoken to many small business owners who just want someone to “take a look” at their operation and tell them where they could improve their business results, but believe they “can’t afford” to hire a consultant. By joining Zenagos, a small business owner can hire a blue-chip consulting team without breaking the bank.

We, the four Zenagos Experts, are good friends, and we have launched more than 17 businesses between us. Some of those enterprises were stand-alone (entrepreneurial), others were new business lines inside existing companies (intrapreneurial), and some were side-hustles that we used to bring in extra income while we did something else (like raising our totally awesome kids). We have been where you are, and we know that you are short on time and facing multiple decisions every day. Instead of locking you into weekly meetings, we make ourselves available to our members on a real-time basis. You work directly with us, and you receive feedback exactly when you need it.

We have consulted across a wide variety of industries – retail, technology, financial services, higher education, aviation, edtech, utilities, consumer goods – to some of the largest companies in the world. Our passion is to use this expertise to help you build your dream business.

You can trust us as a resource because:

Our businesses have been successful.

The companies we have launched have met our goals, supported our families, and enabled us to retire early. In addition, two of the companies we launched grew rapidly, exceeding annual revenue run rates of $20MM within their first five years. One of the companies we personally launched went public. A different one of the businesses was acquired by the fourth largest ad agency in the world.

We understand how to create growth.

Zenagos’ founders have been responsible for launching five entirely new businesses inside large corporations. Three of them achieved hypergrowth and reached large scale, providing new jobs for more than 7,000 employees. One of the organizations is now a part of Purdue University. One of them made over $800MM in annual revenue. Another went public.

We have advised large organizations.

We have more than 70 years of collective experience personally advising the CEOs, Presidents, Deans, and other senior leaders of organizations including Bank of America, The College of William & Mary, American Express, University of Kansas, Charles Schwab, Lutheran Medical Center, Fidelity, Walmart, Case Western Reserve University, Macy’s, Lands End, Kaplan, Tapestry, and Nestlé. Our experience includes mergers and acquisitions (helping large firms evaluate, acquire, and integrate other companies); e-commerce consulting (guiding companies through the development of new marketing strategies and channels); and digital enablement (assisting large companies and universities with the heavy lift of updating their technologies and processes to meet the digital age).

We have advised small organizations.

We have guided individual organizations including restaurants, artists, landscaping professionals, private tutoring companies, robotics teams, universities, CTO consulting businesses, energy healing providers, software development organizations, nonprofits, life coaches, and beverage companies. This experience has given us insight into the challenges of small businesses, such as being too busy getting through the day’s tasks to be able to focus on growth opportunities; needing to decide whether to sell what you want to sell, versus what the customers want to buy; or doing what you like to do, instead of what you need to do.

We have raised money – a lot of it.

Our fast-growing start-ups collectively raised more than $180MM in equity investment with one or more of us sitting on their executive teams. This doesn’t include funds allocated by large corporations to launch intrapreneurial ventures and/or private lending arrangements, which would raise the total over $250MM.

We understand investors and Boards.

We have presented to investors as owner-directors and to Executive Boards as internal executives. We have served as subject-matter advisors to venture capital and private equity firms. And, we have served as Board members for nonprofits. We have experience navigating the sharks in the tank. We know what investors want, and also why you might not want to take their money.

We are published experts.

Our team members have written and edited numerous books and articles on career success and financial independence, including Professionalism, a textbook on the soft skills that lead to success; Marilyn Pincus’s Your Bright Future in Business Administration; Jeffrey Mershon’s Fundamentals in Personal Financial Planning; and “College without the Campus” in the Newsweek Career Guide.

We love helping people.

As executives, we personally shepherded the development of more than 700 professionals of all ages, backgrounds, and stages. As career advisors and mentors, we have coached dozens of individuals through challenges such as: starting a new business, networking to find a job, applying to advanced degree programs, making the leap from Director to Vice President, developing a department budget, negotiating a better salary, and creating a product. We know how important it is that you have a coach or mentor—someone who believes in you and whose goal is to help you succeed.

We are here for you, not your idea.

We’re not an investment shop masquerading as a class in order to learn people’s business ideas. We won’t steal your idea. We consider it a conflict of interest to mix instruction with investment, so we don’t accept finders’ fees from investors, either.
